Stories of the people behind the images

Welcome to my Blog!
Come explore the lives of men and women who created artist-signed postcards from the 1890s to the 1920s. Suffragettes, telephones, automobiles, jazz music and World War One upset the status quo. Women were entering the workforce. New advances in technology and health care were making life easier for some. Others struggled with alcoholism or societal norms and led secret lives as a result. Some lives ended in tragedy, others in triumph. Vintage artist-signed postcards provide a window into people’s lives during this period of history. Will you join me as we travel back in time?
What is a Vintage Artist-Signed Postcard?
Vintage artist-signed postcards reproduce an original work of art (usually watercolor paintings) signed by the artist, with the signature appearing on the postcard after printing. However, sometimes the artist’s signature was cropped off of the image during the printing process. These cards are also considered to be artist-signed postcards. The “golden age” of artist-signed postcards was from the 1890s to 1918. That is the period we will focus on here, although we may make occasional forays into World War II.
Come along with me! Let’s go down the rabbit hole to a time when life moved at a slower pace….
